Catchy, right? I first saw/heard this song a couple of weeks ago when my cousin posted the video to his facebook page. I was immediately drawn in by the artists’ ability to all play one guitar together. I don’t think I have ever seen anything like this. This group is called Walk Off The Earth and they are an indie cover band from Canada. This video (which is a cover of a Gotye song) was posted to youtube on January 9th and has gone viral, already raking in over 69 million views! Ellen Degeneres had WOTE (Walk off the Earth) on her talk show to perform this cover (yes, on one guitar) on January 23, and they have since covered songs by Adele, LMFAO, and The Beatles. The rapid rise in popularity has landed WOTE a record contract with Columbia. Is this just their ten seconds of fame or will we be hearing more from them in the future? Hard to say. And what about Gotye? I’m guessing that even though it is WOTE that made this song so popular, that Gotye is reaping some benefits as well. Right now his single is at number 3 on iTunes top songs chart. Not bad, right?
